Vermont Women Trying To Repeat Basketball Conference Title

Move over Vermont men’s basketball, the women's basketball team would also like to participate in this year’s postseason.

Vermont (12-7, 4-1 America East), winners of three straight and four of their last five games, will host Massachusetts-Lowell (3-15) on Thursday at 11 a.m. Those adapting to Vermont sports betting can keep an eye out.

Vermont Women’s Basketball Outlook

The Catamounts, last season’s America East Conference champions, are 7-4 all-time at home against the Riverhawks. Entering Thursday’s matinee, Vermont has won three in a row and is one game behind for first place in the America East standings behind Albany (16-2, 5-0) and Maine (12-7, 5-0).

Fans and bettors of Vermont women’s college basketball are also eagerly awaiting both the America East Conference and possibly the NCAA Tournament to take place in the next couple of months.

That’s when followers can wager on their hometown heroes for the first time since mobile Vermont sports betting apps launched in the state. Three providers (DraftKings, Fanatics and FanDuel) went live Jan. 11.

Bettors in the state can only wager on in-state college teams if that team is playing in a tournament with four teams or more. It looks like that will happen with the Catamounts, at least for the conference.

This year’s America East conference tournament will begin with quarterfinals on March 8. The semifinals are on March 11 and the championship game is March 15. The highest seeds will host each round.

Women Defending America East Crown

Wagering from operators offering Vermont sports betting promos will be available for the conference tournament. If the Vermont women repeat as NCAA Tournament participants, wagering will be available for those games as well.

For the first time since 2010 (and seventh overall), top-seeded Vermont captured the 2023 America East Conference championship with a 38-36 home win over Albany on March 10.

The Catamounts (25-6) had won 17 straight games and sealed an NCAA Tournament bid as a 15 seed, but lost to second seed and host Connecticut, 95-52, in the first round on March 18, 2023. As far as the league tourney, Vermont is 4-1 in title games at home (Patrick Gymnasium) and 7-5 in title games all-time.
